Fraternal Agents and Firms
Effective April 1, 2010, the Department updated its procedure regarding licensing and appointments of fraternal agents. This update is based, in part, on requests from fraternal societies. Licensing and appointments under the new procedures may be completed electronically, making licensing and appointment processes more efficient. These new procedures are more consistent with licensing requirements in other jurisdictions.
Licensing
The Department eliminated the fraternal qualification from a producer license. Producers should be licensed with the appropriate major lines of authority of life, accident/health and/or variable life/variable annuities.
Appointments
The Department eliminated the fraternal appointment type. Fraternal societies should appoint producers and producer firms for the appropriate major lines of authority. The Department encourages companies to transact appointments electronically.
Fraternal Certificate
The Department eliminated the requirement for a fraternal society to submit a fraternal certificate. Your company no longer needs to send a paper certificate.
States Treating Fraternal as a License Type
The states of Delaware, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Nevada and New Mexico issue fraternal licenses as a license type. Applicants from these states will need to contact the Department to obtain a producer license to sell fraternal insurance benefits in Wyoming.
